Will setting the standard for Sonics
Another competitive game for the Sonics this morning in an early start away at division one side Dosthill Boys. It’s fair to say Dosthill started the stronger, being first to most loose balls and not giving us time on the ball.
As the first half progressed, the Sonics grew into the game and certainly didn’t give the opposition an easy ride. The game was played at a frantic pace with both sides, finding it difficult to retain possession.
The Sonic’s, having been pressed for large spells in the first half eventually conceded as we overcommitted to a opposition attack down the right, allowing a great cross by their winger to the attacker who found himself in acres of space and slotted home.
In true Sonic’s fashion, their attitude, desire, and commitment to their teammates got them back in the game. As the half went on, we grew in confidence and started to have our own success which was encouraging as we went into the halftime break knowing we were still in the game causing problems of our own.
Second half we started strongly, and with growing belief and the skill, creating a few chances of our own. We talked at halftime about creating space and not trying to play through a physical and congested midfield.
Credit to the Sonics as they recognised a number of opportunities and it was only a matter of time before we drew the game level. That came from Max W down the right who played an inch perfect pass into the onrushing James who recognised the keeper coming off his line and lobbed him. 1-1 and a quality finish.
At 1v1 we were right back in the game, but we couldn’t switch off as we knew Dosthill, particularly from the number 7 could cause us problems. The game continued to be to end and was a well contested game., albeit we just didn’t get the rub of the green at times. Unfortunately Dosthill found a second to see out the game, ending 2v1. Well done Dosthill.
Player of the week was a tough one as there was several strong performances particularly from our midfield, however it’s hard not to highlight another strong performance from Will. Will continues to be one of the standard setters for the Sonic this season, showing great composure in defence and making it incredibly difficult for the opposition to get any clear goal scoring opportunities. His composure, strength and vision enabled us to use him in midfield also. Will was great at breaking up the oppositions attack and was a match for the physical presence of their midfield. His composure on the ball supported our ability to get forward whether that was from defence or from the midfield. Well done Will on another dominant performance this week.
Sonics, we go again next week, be proud, remember to level that you are competing at and just how well you are doing this season. Keep believing, because you are all amazing.
