Checkmate! Belles make all the right moves in 5–1 victory over CHESS!
A late morning kick off for the Belles against strong opposition. All the players were in buoyant mood particularly Ava as it was her birthday!
Ava went into left back with Scarlet partnering Elcie in attack. The game started with both teams looking strong and committed. Elcie struck a shot wide then Monica nearly broke through.
An opposition attack saw them flash a shot across the goal, but it was the Belles that got the opener. Oliwia's corner from the left went straight into the bottom corner.
However the opposition got an equaliser as the forward struck a low shot into the far corner.
The game was brilliantly contested and the Belles were winning the ball well, captain Caitlin seemed to cover every blade of grass to drive the team on. A corner of the Belles saw Lols nearly head in, then Elcie outpaced the defender to send a lob that looks destined to go in but dropped just over the bar.
Halftime came which ended a solid first half for the Belles. Despite conceding an equaliser we were confident that more chances will follow. Oliwia moved into attack as Iris went to right midfield.
It didn't take Oliwia long to make an early impact in the second half. A delightful through ball from Caitlin saw Oliwia race onto it, she rounded the goalkeeper and scored.
A third goal soon followed, the ball fell to Scarlet, who lashed a left footed shot high into the top corner. Some strong play on the right by Iris saw her cross into Maisie but she just couldn't reach it.
At the other end a swift opposition counter was soon snuffed out by the impressive Darcy. The Belles determination was excellent as they continued to work hard with and without the ball. Some perfect one v one defending from Zoe stopped their winger and on the opposite side Lola C showed fantastic strength to get Infront of the attacker.
Oliwia struck a long range shot against the bar, but didn't have to wait long to complete her hat trick. Maisie was involved with some confident play on the left as Oliwia stroked the ball past the goalkeeper.
Lols saw a header go wide from a corner then showed her determination by out jumping the forward to win a commanding header in defence.
The opposition continued to try and get back into the game but the Belles were first to everything. Defensively looking confident as Darcy utilised her pace to dispossess the forward. The Belles managed to add another goal. A ball into the attacking area saw Ava nod it into the path of who got there infront of the goalkeeper to finish.
It was a scintillating display from Oliwia with her 4 goals being a reward for her excellent play all game. The Belles closed the game out and could be very happy with the performance.
The pitch conditions weren't great but the Belles football was brilliant. More impressive was how determined they were against strong opposition. Every single player played a part in a wonderful team display!
Players of the match went to Maisie and Oliwia. Maisie showed confident play on the left, was involved in a goal and looked dangerous throughout. Also, Oliwia for not only her four goals but for showing tremendous quality and skill all game. She's adding goals to her already impressive game!
Huge well done both and well done Belles! At the end of the game, cakes were shared to celebrate Ava's birthday as the Belles sang happy birthday to her. Safe to say they are better footballers than singers! Have a great day Ava!
