Tight game with Kibworth

The Belles travelled to Kibworth having played each other the week before, which ended in an entertaining 1-1 draw.

There was no Ava S, Ava H and also Evie who is still injured. But had Lois available as she started at left back. Lola C returned at right back, with Eliza pushing to left midfield.

The game started well for the Belles, with Oliwia looking dangerous on the right. She fired in a brilliant cross which was headed against the cross bar by Scarlet. However, Elcie pounced on the loose ball as the Belles found themselves 1-0 up early.

The Belles started to create further chances, Eliza thumped in a shot which was blocked and Scarlet fired over the cross bar. Lois was enjoying her battle with the pacy opposition winger as Monica made not one but two brave tackles in midfield.

The Belles football was admirable considering the wind and being uphill, Elcie nearly connected with a volley as Scarlet saw her free kick well saved by the goalkeeper.

A rare opposition attack saw Esme just do enough to beat the attacker to the ball.

The Belles continued to press forward and get first to every ball. Lols was displaying this as she anticipated every ball that went towards her. At halftime the Belles could be happy with their lead, but probably should have had more of a cushion.

That said the second half began strongly for the Belles, Caitlin jinked past her marker and struck just over the bar. Iris also aimed a shot towards goal but it was cleared. Further chances followed as Oliwia had a shot saved, then Darcy fired over the bar.

From a corner Lols nearly connected with a header then some strong and confident defending by Zoe stopped an attack. The Belles came agonisingly close to adding another, Elcie's attempt rolled towards the far post but Amie just couldn't convert it after running in.

As the Belles had a narrow lead it was only natural for the opposition to throw bodies forward. Lola C, won her tackle but still had plenty to do as she held off another tackle and played a pass to Oliwia. Then Darcy raced back to clear a through ball.

The Belles closed the game out to get a well deserved win and 3 points. In all fairness the Belles should have had more a cushion but we were delighted with how they played, especially in the first half. We also defended really well when needed.

Player of the Match - Lols

Player of the match went to Lols. She was so brave, winning countless battles and being first to the ball. She also pushed into midfield to provide more options!

Well done Belles and well done Lols!
