KATE SCORES STUNNER IN ROSES WIN

The Roses welcomed Sileby Wildcats to Alans Way, a game which previously ran out in a draw towards the end of last season.

An autumnal and cold morning quickly turned when the sun appeared, it wasn’t the only thing shining bright as the Roses put in a good performance to pick up their first win of the season.

We welcomed Beth and Evie for their first games for the team with Kayleigh returning after missing last week. The Roses were without Sophie and Poppy who were unavailable.

The Roses started brightly and looked comfortable throughout the first half, defensively tight with the same combination that did so well last game with Katie, Lenna, Caris and Esme rarely troubled and Lyla collecting any loose balls that came through to her. When they were tested they stayed strong and cleared the ball forward or as more affectionately known in the Brindley house as a “Wabooom” (Not by the Coach).

Further forward Tilly started in midfield with Kayleigh, we wanted Kayleigh’s steel and energy in there to start the game. Both girls did an excellent job collecting the loose balls and putting pressure on the opposition.

Lauren and Kiri provided good balance out wide, more of the play coming down Lauren’s side as she continues to learn and develop in what was only her 3rd game. Kiri played some good balls through for Chloe ‘Gazza’ to chase.

The Roses took an early lead when a good ball through from the midfield found Chloe ‘Gazza’ who burst through on goal and lifted the ball past the onrushing goalkeeper. A really smart finish and it’s brilliant to see how confident Chloe is playing her football at the moment.

A carbon copy ball through could have seen us extend the lead but our effort was saved outside of the box by the Sileby keeper. Katie was given some encouragement to take the free kick and she ‘bent it like Beckham’ curling the ball into the top corner, a fantastic hit and she was delighted!

Ellie scored the third, she was positive on the ball today and was making us tick, moments before her goal she played a great ball into Kiri who couldn’t control in the box and had a shot which went just high and wide but she eventually got her goal when a ball into the box fell into her path and she side footed it past the keeper, off the post and in.

Sileby put a bit more pressure on Bosworth towards the end of the half as we lost our shape a little making lots of changes at once to keep things fresh. Evie came on for Tilly and partnered Lily who came on for Lauren, both were working hard to win the ball and made some good progressive passes. Shortly after Beth and Chloe B entered the pitch, Chloe B worked really hard off the ball and something she is really improving on and she won a few tackles and kept possession for the team.

In the second half, we knew Sileby would come at us and they did just that but once again our defence was strong, Esme and Katie were aggressive trying to win the ball before it got to the attacker whilst Caris and Lenna covered each other well. Lenna made a run from one box to the other with the ball and unfortunately couldn’t find the finish the run deserved whilst Caris intercepted passes, won tackles and played some nice balls forward, setting up a chance on one occasion which unfortunately wasn’t finished.

Chloe ‘Gazza’ got her hatrick, scoring our fourth and fifth whilst Sileby replied with two of their own in-between and right at the end. The fourth goal was a good run and strong finish from the right side of the box after a great assist from Ellie, this not long after having one chalked off for offside. Her third and our fifth came when she again chased down a through ball, took it past the goalkeeper and then finished well into the empty net as Sileby defenders chased back on recovery.

Sileby pulled one back with a long shot from outside the box that made it 4-1 and one right at the end to make it 5-2 after a rare mistake from our defence.

Player of the Match - Esme
Player of the Match - Esme

It was a good result for the Roses who have started the season with two draws and a win in what is a competitive league for us against some strong teams. There were so many good performances today and lots of positives from individuals, Esme was awarded Player of the Match, she didn’t stop running all game and had to be really sharp second half under pressure against a strong right winger.
