No tricks, all treat for Veterans
The Vets faced FC Barwellcelona at Camp Newbold and after a good warm up were ready for kick off.
Jack and Vish partnered in centre midfield for the first time, both being patient waiting for their first starts of the season with Scott looking to join the attack from deep. Matt returned and filled in at right back.
The Vets had a really strong start and Stephens turned on the ball and pushed a pass out left to Scott, as Bosworth Vets advanced up the pitch so did Jack who met the ball with his run and rinse he just inside the box.
1-0 quickly became 2-0 when Scott seemed to take the scenic route around the Barwell defence to finish from a tight angle under the keeper.
Despite Bosworth’s good play Barwell threatened our goal number of times from set pieces heading over and wide, they eventually pulled one back from a free kick which was curled over the wall and ended up low into the corner of the goal.
At half time we had to re-iterate that we would be our own downfall as we were giving away cheap free kicks and that was where Barwell had threatened mainly.
In the second half, we took control of the game but didn’t threaten to score in the early stages. Jono returned to the field after injury, coming in at right back and Dave Bell added some balance to midfield and Neil came on to manage the speedy right winger, all subs were excellent and made a huge contribution to the game.
Stu made it 3-1 finishing into an empty net after some graft and hard work and it was 4-1 soon after, some good work from Daniel on the left, he assisted Dave Bell who finished with aplomb inside the box.
A real positive result for the Vets who have won 3 from 4 and look to continue their good form. It was a brilliant performance, from back to front. Our defence was strong, Canavan got his head to everything and Jacko covered well despite having his ankle launched into space by big Rich! Stephens made lots of friends, but I’d not expect any christmas cards! Player of the Match was Jack, after an injury, we have slowly increased his game time and he covered everything in his area of the pitch, won first and second balls and started off our scoring for the afternoon.
