Eliza returns for Belles

Fresh from reaching the county cup final last week, it was a return to league action for the Belles. A strong squad of 16 for the game with Eliza making her return from injury!

Zoe started at right back, as Amie slotted in at left back. Ava H moved forward to left wing and on the opposite side Iris also started.

With the swirling wind and pitch surface, it was clear that the football on show probably wasn't going to be fast flowing. That said the Belles started strong, as Elcie forced the goalkeeper into a save and that was quickly followed by Oliwia seeing her shot blocked. The Belles defence was composed as in the centre Lols and Darcy were on the front foot.

The game clearly needed a goal and it was the Belles that grabbed it. Ava S was played through with the goalkeeper saving her first attempt but somehow Ava S squeezed in the rebound from a tight angle.

Further chances followed, Sydney played another through ball to Ava S who just couldn't quite reach it then Ava H crossed which just evaded Iris. Caitlin then burst through but her shot at the near post was saved.

The half time whistle went with the Belles deservedly in front at the break. Changes were made as Scarlet pushed into attack and Lola C switched to left back.

With the opposition attacking with the wind, it meant the Belles had to be alert. Darcy was doing a terrific job sweeping up behind as Lols won a brave header. Monica continued to work hard in midfield as Oliwia and Caitlin supported Elcie in attack. An opposition attempt was tipped over by Esme, then a fine interception by Zoe was perfectly timed.

The Belles certainly needed a second goal. Elcie again brought a superb save from the goalkeeper. Then a cross from Eliza flew across the face of goal. The Belles remained positive and got their rewards, with probably the best bit of quality in the whole game. Darcy won the ball and played it into Caitlin, who drove forward and played a sublime pass into the path of the jet heeled Eliza. She showed excellent pace as she fired a low cross into Elcie who emphatically finished first time. It was a wonderful goal and a brilliant moment for the returning Eliza and of course Elcie who again worked incredibly hard this morning.

The full time whistle went and it was a job well done for the Belles. Not spectacular but comfortable in the end.

Player of the Match - Eliza & Elcie

Players of the match went to Eliza and Elcie. It was amazing to see Eliza in a Belles shirt, with her last appearance being in the first game of the season, way back in September. She's had a tough time with her injury but has worked hard and we are delighted to have her back. Then to Elcie, who always works hard and got the goal her efforts deserved. She's firmly our top goalscorer this season which is a fantastic achievement in her first season with the Belles.

Well done girls and well done Belles!
