THE SONICS SPIRIT NOT DAMPENED

Another wet game for the Sonics, lower on numbers today and a boot crisis en route!
Slower start from the Sonics leaving them behind within minutes and unfortunately it rained constantly for the first half, but after the goal the Sonics came alive, worked together as a team and had put everything we had been working at in training into play.
The Sonics individual skill, but more importantly, their teamwork to get the ball, one or two touches, pass the ball, move again to receive the ball to create space, to pass in triangles, to keep their heads up, was fantastic to see!
Coaches Clare and Emma decided today was a game to give no real direction, to let them work together, think for themselves and what a pleasure for us, parents and grandparents it was to see.
David in goal when called upon had a brilliant game with one save from flat on the floor to launch himself into the air to make an important save was fantastic. In the defensive line we had Ben, William, Leighton, Louie, James and George all having a stint, they worked together to defend, to pass to each other, to get up to towards the goal, they were a credit to themselves in the fact they were always looking to make that tackle but also make that pass to each other and not just kick it away.
In the midfield James, Leighton, Jenson, Tom all had a go, you could see that they thought let’s not just run with this ball, but ensure the run is on, make the pass to create the space and push us forward as a team, something which was lovely to see today as ALL players were not scared to pass the ball backwards, knowing it was giving the opportunity to go forwards in a better position.
This was the case with the wingers in William, George, Ben, Louie, Jack they were connecting with the midfield, but also many times with the defenders, then running down the line further to receive and connect with the striker who primarily in the game was Jack.
Jack today had timed his runs reallly well and this was also picked up by the opposition linesman! Louie from a corner crossed in and James had a perfect header to head home our first goal.
If I have it correct from another corner from Louie, Jenson slotted home a goal, Jenson today was aiming for another hatrick and had some amazing feet again and got his second goal in the first half.
On what was a fabulous volley George had got the goal bug and scored a perfect goal. Our second half we were a little less organised but the mud was sticking to their boots and they battled on, Tom hit home a goal and then Louie also found the back of the net!

Today though for his pin perfect corners, his all round effort, his listening to what we had asked for, the free kicks and the power he released the ball with at times, Louie was the player of the week! Well done Louie and all the
