STRONG FOUNDATION BEING BUILT BY THE BELLES

Sunday morning saw AFC take on a high flying Anstey Nomads side who had made scoring goals habitual. A very positive training session, that saw tactics, discussion of structure and most importantly happy faces, prefaced the fixture.

Great numbers from AFC meant that the girls could be as fresh as possible throughout the game. Firstly, the girls were incredibly respectful in a minute's applause for a Thurmaston youngest who passed away recently. AFC’s thoughts are with family and friends.

AFC started strongly attempting to perfect their new four at the back formation, with stalwart centre halves and hard working tricky full backs. A lot of early door success came from the latter with Ava using her pin point touch to quickly and effectively play threaded passes behind into Abi and the engine Eiprile who worked tirelessly to get on the end of all passes coming her way.

Creating freedom was given todays POTM Freya who, positioned at centre half, was allowed to step into midfield with the ball and create chances wide, as well as sweeping up the Nomads forward play.

The first half saw a lot of grit and toil as AFC tenaciously held onto that prized clean sheet.

The second half had AFC come out of the blocks straight away creating chance after chance, eventually this overwhelming wave of pressure found success with our POTM curling and absolute corker into the top right hand corner, the cheers from subs, players and supporters made that goal even more magical.

Unfortunately, that was fodder for the Nomads to finally switch on and managed to squeeze 3 smartly taken goals in the last 10 minutes.

AFC were at their best all season against an established side, this is real proof of how far the girls have come and they should be very proud of themselves for what they have achieved so far.
