FREYA THE DEFENSIVE SLAYER

Today was probably one of the best team games for the Sonics, passing and working for each other and with minimal coach guidance, it was an absolute pleasure to watch and a game all Sonics should be immensely proud of. There were some amazing saves in goal from David and Ben when he had a stint, to the defensive line of Louie, William, Ben and Freya working as their own team to prevent the advances from the opposition, to the centre midfielders, wingers and strikers working together! The game was an end to end battle and that was reflected by the score line too, with both sets of parents and coaches biting their nails!

Jack, Max W and Max T had some great hold ups of the ball, offloads and attempts on goal themselves. The midfield of Jenson, Tom at times George and Max W worked immensely hard but some of the play making moments of the game from Jenson were fantastic and a moment that stood out for me was Tom had the chance to shoot but he knew if he passed to Max W then the goal was secure and what a goal it was and celebrated by all!

Jake in the first half put us ahead with a well taken goal and worked hard on the wing to cross the ball into the box for team mates to get on the end of. Another team moment came from the defensive line through to the middle and Tom slotted the ball home, a well deserved goal. As much as it was a team game one individual moment of brilliance does have to go to George who took an extremely well taken goal to get the crowd going wild!

The defensive line of William, Freya and Louie is building and building with great enthusiasm and reading of the game and each other’s presence, it is a partnership which was lovely to watch! This was always supported by David and Ben in goal and their communication with their defence is improving weekly!

The player of the week this week goes to Freya, from the off she worked hard to get to the ball, is really starting to read the game well and importantly working with her left and right backs, some may say she is keeping the boys in line! She gained a special mention for her defensive work today as well from the opposition coach which is always nice to receive! Well done Freya and all of the Sonics.
