Bullets take the positives of a strong campaign

The final fixture of the U13s chapter saw AFC take on a strong St Nicholas Swifts side, known for moving the ball with confidence and composure.

It proved to be a competitive and hard-fought encounter from start to finish.

AFC were slow out of the blocks and struggled to find their rhythm early on, which allowed Swifts to capitalise and take the lead. As the first half progressed, however, AFC began to grow into the game, showing more intent and energy. Their efforts paid off with a deserved equaliser—an outstanding strike that thundered against the crossbar before rebounding off the goalkeeper and into the net.

With momentum building, AFC continued to press and were rewarded again just before the break. A perfectly timed through ball split the defence, and the finish was calmly tucked away to give AFC a 2–1 lead heading into half time.

The second half resumed with both sides battling hard, but it was Swifts who struck first, levelling the score early on with a well-delivered cross that was clinically finished. As the game wore on, fatigue began to show, and AFC were punished for not reacting quickly enough to further crosses into the box, conceding two more goals in the latter stages.

Despite the setback, AFC continued to fight until the final whistle, showing determination and team spirit throughout. While the result didn’t go their way, it does little to overshadow what has been a fantastic season for the boys.

Player of the Match: Archie

Player of the Match - Archie
Player of the Match - Archie

Archie was deservedly named Player of the Match following an excellent all-round performance in a role outside of his usual position at full back. Stepping up to the challenge, he showed great adaptability and maturity throughout the game. Defensively, Archie’s work rate off the ball was outstanding. He consistently tracked the runs of dangerous attacking wingers, putting in crucial tackles and helping to limit the opposition’s threat out wide. His positioning and awareness stood out, especially given he was playing in an unfamiliar role. On the ball, Archie remained calm and composed, making sensible decisions and contributing to the team’s build-up play when needed. His performance combined effort, discipline, and confidence - qualities that didn’t go unnoticed. A well-rounded display and a thoroughly deserved recognition.
