Bullets bow out of Major cup valiantly

On a bright morning with the sun shining, AFC welcomed Weddington Sports, a side from the division above, for a tough Round 2 Major Cup clash.

From the first whistle AFC showed real intent, playing some excellent football and creating several early chances. Weddington’s defence held firm though, doing well to keep AFC from opening the scoring despite the pressure.

Midway through the first half AFC had a corner cleared, which allowed Weddington to launch a quick counter-attack and take the lead against the run of play. AFC responded well and not long after were awarded a free kick. A powerful strike found the back of the net to bring AFC level and send the teams into half-time at 1–1.

The second half was a competitive battle with both sides working hard. AFC continued to create plenty of opportunities but were unlucky not to convert them. Midway through the half Weddington managed to take advantage of their chances, scoring a second and then adding a third.

AFC pushed forward and went all out in attack in an attempt to get back into the game, but it wasn’t to be on the day.

Despite the result, it was a great team performance with some fantastic football played and 100% effort shown by every player. Plenty of positives to take going forward.

Player of the Match - Jake

Today’s Player of the Match goes to Jake for a superb performance in midfield.

Jake put in a solid display from start to finish, showing great intelligence both on and off the ball. He was constantly in the right place to win possession back for AFC and helped control the tempo of the game from the middle of the park.

When in possession, Jake produced some quality passes, including several Pirlo-esque through balls that split the defence and created attacking opportunities. Alongside his technical quality, he also showed real determination in the tackle, putting in strong challenges and competing for every ball.

A dominant presence in midfield and a key part of AFC’s performance today. A well-deserved Player of the Match award.
