Sunday morning saw AFC take on a well numbered strong Loughborough Sapphires side. The Belles went underway with a bare 9, however that shouldn’t take away from their unbeatable mindset.
AFC trialed a new formation that was more defensively orientated allowing different players to get a feel for a new position. AFC got out of the blocks quickly, sending the ball outside quickly to our two pacey technical wide midfielders in Erin and Lilly. After suffering a goal from a sweet strike from the L’boro forward bossie came straight back to even the score from a thunderous strike from Erin past a stranded keeper into the bottom corner. 1-1.
With inexperience comes the odd error and unfortunately that meant we occasionally fell short and conceded the odd goal but nothing can take away from the girls work rate and toil in such cold conditions.
Half time.
Positions were shuffled about a bit again, getting some of the girls into much more familiar territory, this proved a bit more successful as the second half was a lot closer. Tight knit passing and control of the ball better.
Although L’boro managed to grab a few more goals, Bossie were not shy of chances.
Once again, the score does not reflect how hard all 9 players worked.
AFCMB 1- 8 L’boro Sapphires
