A cup victory for the Bullets!
The Bullets travelled to Ashby for their first cup fixture of the season, with another entertaining morning of football on a crisp Saturday morning. Both sides showed great effort and determination in what turned out to be a closely contested cup tie.
The game got underway with AFC creating a number of opportunities, playing some good spells of direct football but unfortunately unable to find the breakthrough. Midway through the first half, Ashby took the lead after AFC failed to deal with a long clearance from the Ashby goalkeeper. A bouncing ball found its way to an Ashby winger, whose looping effort managed to beat the AFC goalkeeper despite getting a hand to it.
The Bullets responded well and, following a scrappy passage of play, managed to work their way through on goal. A well-taken finish saw AFC get themselves back on level terms, taking the game into half-time all square.
The second half proved a challenging one for AFC. On a smaller pitch than they're used to, the Bullets struggled to find their usual rhythm and flow. However, they continued to create opportunities, only to be denied by the woodwork and an outstanding performance from the Ashby goalkeeper, who seemed determined to keep AFC out.
With around 10 minutes remaining, AFC capitalised on an Ashby goal kick, winning possession with the goalkeeper caught out of position. A fantastic long-range effort found the back of the net, sending the Bullets into the lead!
The closing stages saw AFC having to dig deep, defend resolutely and look for opportunities on the counter-attack. Despite a few more chances that could have put the game beyond doubt, the Bullets held firm until the final whistle.
Not our usual free-flowing football, but sometimes cup games are about finding a way to win, showing character and digging deep when things aren't quite clicking. Credit to both sides for their efforts and commitment throughout.
The Bullets march on into the next round! 💙🖤

🏆 Player of the Match – Ben 🏆
This week's Player of the Match was awarded to Ben, who put in a fantastic performance, showing an outstanding work rate from start to finish.
Ben gave the opposition defenders a horrid morning with his pace, excellent footwork and physical presence, causing problems every time he got on the ball. His ability to link up play, find space and consistently be in the right place at the right time was a real asset to the team.
He wasn't afraid to get on the ball, even under pressure, always looking to make things happen and drive the team forward.
A brilliant all-round attacking performance from Ben. Well deserved! 👏
