After a 6–7 week break without competitive football, AFC returned to action with an impressive performance against Next Gen, starting the match firmly on the front foot and showing no signs of rust.
From the opening whistle, AFC set the tempo, displaying a strong work rate both in and out of possession. Defensively, the team looked organised and solid, while going forward they moved the ball sharply and with confidence. Despite enjoying good spells of possession and creating promising situations, AFC were unable to find the decisive breakthrough in the final third.
The first half saw AFC largely in control, matching Next Gen’s physicality and competing well across the pitch. The second half continued in much the same fashion, with both teams locked in a hard-fought battle over the full 70 minutes.
AFC showed great resilience against a strong and physical Next Gen side, defending well and continuing to press for a winner until the final whistle. However, neither team could convert their chances, and the match ended in a goalless draw.
Overall, it was a positive return to competitive action for AFC, with plenty of encouraging signs to take forward from a disciplined and well-contested performance.
The Player of the Match award was deservedly presented to Jacob for a top-level performance in midfield. In a fiercely contested and physical battle, Jacob brought strength, composure, and real presence to the centre of the park.
He combined his physicality with flashes of Brazilian-style footwork, gliding past opponents with ease and giving AFC a vital edge in possession. His passing range and vision were on full display throughout the game, consistently linking play and setting the tempo for the team.

Jacob’s all-round performance showcased true class in midfield and played a key role in AFC’s strong showing. A thoroughly well-earned Player of the Match — well done, Jacob.
