VETS RUNOUT AGAINST SANDS

The Vets had a training game with charity team Sands United Ashby, albeit a friendly match it was played in good competitive spirit.

Sands ran out 2-1 winners despite a late Bosworth push for the equaliser.

In the early sparring Fantom gave away a penalty which was rattled against the post with ferocity.

Sands took the lead early into the second half, a ball down their left hand side put them through on goal, Jim saved the initial shot but the ball rebounded off the hapless Brindley and into the back of the net.

Stephens equalised not long after, a mix up with the Sands keeper and defence allowed the returning striker to finish into the corner. Shortly after Stephens had a goal disallowed after being called offside.

Sands scored a winner with a rasping free kick 25 yards from goal which left Jim diving full stretch.

Bosworth pushed on late in the game and despite a few chances they couldn’t find the equaliser however it was a case of much needed minutes in the legs following a couple of earlier training sessions.
