VETS FINDING THE KEY TO SUCCESS

The Vets entertained Mossdale on a heavy pitch at Ravenstone. As it's not our usual home ground, Captain Scott was fiddling with keys like an episode of take your pick. However Des O’Connor didn't appear but Dicko did to help him set the goals up.

Before the gaffer Eddy could speak, Griffo was lubing himself up in goose fat like an Aunt Bessie Roast Potato. Eddy decided to stick with the same 3-5-2 formation, knowing that a win would put the vets in a great position for the league.

The game started brilliantly, Hutch burst forward to lob the goalkeeper to give the Vets the lead within the first minute. The Vets continued to push as it was clear the opposition were going to try and mix it up.

There was a couple of flashpoints in the first half as the opposition number 17 was doing his best to make a spectacle of himself. Stephens was ruffling more feathers than a Christmas turkey slaughterhouse, and found himself on the receiving end of a terrible tackle. A melee followed as the opposition quickly subbed the number 17. However he wasn't finished as he kept barking at the referee which saw him get a nice red early Christmas card.

Unfortunately Stephens couldn't continue but the game did settle a little. As halftime approached the vets got a second. Daniel broke through but his shot was saved, the rebound fell to Hutch with Captain Scotty slotting home left footed.

At halftime Eddy told the lads that we have a good cushion so can focus on playing our own game. Fresh from Elf duty little Carl came on and Jack went into midfield.

The second half started well, with hightower thundering a header forward which nearly fell to Daniel. Scotty saw his effort parried by the goalkeeper, but a third followed. Dave 'taco' Bell won the ball as Hutch played Scotty through who scored his second of the game.

Despite this the opposition scored by sending a long pass straight from kick off. It was harsh on the Vets but a reminder that they still need to keep their concentration.

The Vets regained their 3 goal advantage in excellent fashion. The opposition goalkeeper sent a high pass straight onto Jack's slab head as he headed first time from 20 yards out and in.

Neil 'Nobby Stiles' Featherstone was charging up the left flank and made a slide tackle that Sergio Ramos would be proud of. Unfortunately though there was no opposition player near him. But it was good to see the opposition bring on a lad that resembled Bobby Charlton to ensure that it was Nobby v Bobby on the wing.

Jimmy saved well from close range and little Carl burst through on goal but must of felt sorry for the defender as he passed the ball to him.

Chinese Lee threw himself forward from left wing back but was interceped. Scotty squared the ball to Hutch who just couldn't reach it as the opposition grabbed a consolation to make it 4-2.

The full time whistle went as the Vets showed their togetherness and dug in at times today. The football may have not been flowing, but the conditions probably meant there was little chance of that anyway. The Vets now sit third in the league and should be very confident in their pursuit of winning the league.

We headed back to the pub for some beers and laughs, which is what it's all about.

Well done lads, a performance that demonstrated the team ethos as we stick together and fantastic numbers yet again!

A special mention to John Sammon who made himself available today after a recent family bereavement, the lads and the club would like to send their heartfelt condolences to John and the family.
