THE DOGS BULLOCK!

A positive start from the Bozzy Vets and there was a level of intensity which we haven’t always seen, the lads seemed really up for this cup match and with several players missing we still managed to put out a squad of 16.

Aaron came in goal for the absent Jim making his second appearance after his debut earlier in the season.

The chances were really coming Bosworths way but our final ball was lacking. Dicko rattled the bar with a fierce shot and then shortly after at the other end, the opposition were awarded a penalty following a long throw and a trip in the box by the returning Griff. The penalty was well dispatched giving Aaron no chance.

Griff moments later made up for the pen, he was in a foot race with the opposition winger and put the afterburners on like Forest Gump, if that wasn’t enough to scare the Dunton player he also had a face like Phil Jones so the opposition backed down and Griff put the ball into Hedgerow Z.

Spurred by Griffs desire and leadership. Bozzy hit back instantly, some good play working the ball wide to Matt. The ball found its way to the Border Collie Hutch who turned in the box, without room to shoot he found the marauding Nathan who calmly tucked the ball beyond the keepers reach to make it 1-1.

Bosworth nearly made it 2-1, Stephens who was causing anguish for the opposition was fouled. Comments were heard on the side from an “unnamed manager” stating if Lee doesn’t hit one of the big lads with this, he’s never taking a free kick again. Luckily Lee Park Sung served a delicious delivery and Nathan headed just wide of the post, a reprieve for Lee who would later serve the “unnamed manager” at the Wing Wah. Just before the half ended, another spurred opportunity, Stu was played through on goal and he tried to lift the ball over the keeper, it still remains, the only decent chips around Newbold are served by our sponsor Greedy Fish.

Half-time was 1-1 and Bosworth would feel aggrieved not to be ahead. Eddy doesn’t like saying it but really there was not much to add, other than to go again as we were.

Bozzy Vets made it 2-1 but after an in-depth conversation with the Ed Sheeran running the line, he ruled it out for offside. Some lovely work from Nathan down the right side and a cut back found Stephens in the box who crashed into the ground like a juggernaut, the ball bounced off him and found its way back to Nathan who finished but was judged to be in an offside position. Despite shouts of if not a goal then a penalty? And the ball didn’t go forward? The referee took the advice of his assistant Ed who sang a bit of “Beautiful People” to sway the call.

Bosworth would unfortunately go behind again, a common theme so far this season. We didn’t get out quick enough to the wide man whose cross ended up in the far corner. Much to Aaron’s frustration, rumours of his nickname being the Vampire have been unfounded especially as he had another solid game and dealt with crosses generally well.

Subs had to be made, the lads had worked hard and we needed to freshen up. Firstly Matchett the Hatchett replaced Lee Park Sung and Dave “Taco” Bell replaced Griff with Dicko moving back into the 3 man defence.

Taco made an instant impact, he chased down every ball and was a big part of our equaliser. A ball out to the left found him, he cut inside and his ball across found Nathan who curled a shot into the top corner. Desmond and Game On!

Bosworth looked like the team who were going to get a winner otherwise we had to face the lottery of penalties. Hutch burst through and clipped the bar.

Eddy rolled the dice, Stephens and Stu looking tired after some great work were replaced with a 50% fit Scotty and the effervescent Sammon who both and not for a very long time gave their best 8 minutes. Nathan grabbed a third and his hat-trick, a hopeful ball over the top and he burst past the defender, as he was about to finish, the defender did just enough but Nathan scored at the second attempt.

Bosworth 3-2 up or were they? After the opposition seemed to have the ear of the referee for a previous booking for Stephens and the offside goal we were left wondering for about 5 minutes. Number 5 pulled out of his back pocket the SCORY rule book, for several minutes trying to find a loophole in the rules to disallow the goal. As the birds started chirping in preparation for the morning sunrise, the goal was eventually given to make it 3-2.

Bosworth Vets made it into the next round of the cup and fully deserved. Nathan was awarded Player of the Match by Chad, the Director of Veterans Football, shoutout to the defensive 3 Canavan, Jono and Griff who were watertight, made some big tackles and chucked a head on everything which came their way. Jono, that post-match can of Carling was well deserved.
