SID ON THE SCORESHEET

The Vets were looking sharp in orange as they donned their new kit thanks to sponsorship of Move Fitness Club based in Heather.

Short recovery time after the game against Sands but a large squad of 18 gave the gaffer the chance to put almost two teams out.

On the relatively new 3G at Coalville Town against a new Vets team, it was hard to know what Bosworth would be up against.

After a rousing team talk Bosworth were ready and raring for the first whistle but it was a nightmare start, within 2 minutes Coalville had broken the deadlock, a ball through and a lofted finish put Coalville 1-0 up. Just a few moments later it was 2-0 when a shot found its way inside the near post.

Despite the poor start Bosworth could have confidence in pulling it back as they were moving the ball quite well but a couple of missed chances was leaving the sideline frustrated. Despite this, Bosworth continued and Jack played a ball across to Dan who tapped in from close range. Scott then hit the bar from a free kick and the rebound didn’t fall kindly. The equaliser came shortly after when a great give and go found Stu through on goal, his initial effort was well saved by the keeper but he pounced on the rebound to make it 2-2.

Bosworth were looking more assured at the back and it was pretty much one way pressure for the rest of the half but Coalville still caused a few problems from set-pieces.

Missed chances were proving costly at the time with Scott blazing over the bar, Stu missing a 1v1 and Chris clipping the bar with a header, not once but twice. However Dan got his 2nd and so did Stu with two composed finishes. Chris added one to finish the half 5-2.

The gaffer made 7 changes at half time and despite a fast start from Coalville and a brilliant finish from the far side it was one way for chances most of the half. Stephens was found guilty of missing the lion share but after a season out with a fractured ankle it’s good to see him back on the pitch getting those opportunities to score.

Dan and Chris scored with good build up and composure before an inspired substitution from the gaffer saw goalkeeper Sid come on with number 22 on his back and almost immediately he was put through on goal and he calmly side footed it past the goalkeeper. A great moment for a Vets legend. After the game Sid said:

Only waited 30 years to score a goal, my lucky number from now on. Great game today!

The game finished 8-3 and the lads watched the second half of Coalville Town v Retford which was of a much higher standard.
