Hutch and “The Four Seasons”

You’ve heard of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, this was all about Hutch and the Four Weather Seasons.

The boys were instructed to arrive at 13:10pm to get the pitch set up and have plenty of time to warm up. On arrival, the boss aka Eddy and assistant manager Griffo parked up and were shocked to see the lads already hard at it setting up the pitch. A rare sight… and one that suggested the boys meant business today. However it wasn’t all plain sailing, Chinese Lee was frantically trying to crack the code of the key safe to get into the changing rooms however he was putting the combination code into the wrong safe. Facepalm!

The squad gathered in the changing room for one of Eddy’s famous pre-match team talks, and the message was clear: the oppo today will give you a game, and we need to be at it from the start.

At this point, the returning Nathan was seen feeding the players out-of-date energy supplements, which somehow seemed to help the lads focus and actually listen to the boss.

First Half – Tropical Start

The game kicked off in what can only be described as tropical weather, with the sun absolutely blasting. The ref blew and we were underway, with the Borough front two immediately causing problems and keeping our back three on their toes.

At one stage, the returning High Tower aka Rich Legs was left in knots, trying to untangle himself from the chaos up front.

Second Weather Front – Wind Trouble

Then came the second weather front… and with it, the wind. This made clearing lines and pushing out extremely difficult, especially with Borough applying constant pressure.

In fairness, Jono, Big Rich and T-Rex Lee held solid at the back, while Hutch was gathering the mileage in the middle of the park alongside Jack and Big Dick, trying to battle through the conditions. The wind causing chaos as Lee Park Sung karate kicked the ball at his own head.

The Return of Neil “Nobby Styles”

Today also saw the return of Neil, our very own Nobby Styles (physical likeness only). The instructions were simple: bring balance with that left foot, and if possible win the odd header… something he’s not exactly renowned for.

But then… came his moment.

The ball was played high into the air, Nobby launched himself into a jump, and the sidelines gathered in anticipation… then BANG. The ball came off Nobby’s head like a bullet, with a noise best described as a scream. Players congratulated him for winning the header… while also being in absolute bits laughing.

Nobby looked over at the management team, and at this point the Director of Veterans Football Chad had arrived on the sidelines wearing shorts and a t-shirt, also laughing his head off.

Chances but No Goals

The first half continued with Borough putting pressure on. Dale and Hutch both had chances after hard work created openings, and High Tower thought he’d scored from a corner… only for a heroic defensive header to block the effort.

0-0 at half time.

Second Half – Bosworth Take Control

The boys went out after some more words of wisdom from Bossy Eddy and started using the weather conditions to their advantage.

Nathan started putting in some brilliant deliveries from corners, piling the pressure on Borough, and it paid off when Hutch struck first… and shortly after, struck again to make it:

2-0 AFC Market Bosworth Vets

Third Weather Front – Snow/Hail Madness

Just as Bosworth got control… the third weather front arrived: snow/hail.

At this point Chad was seriously weighing up his life choices, reflecting that he could have been watching a Disney film with a coffee… instead of sitting pitch side freezing in a t-shirt and shorts.

Hutch First Goal (Bad Language Warning)

But it turned out to be a masterstroke. Chad styled it out and managed to capture the first Bosworth goal on camera with not long left in the game.

Griffo’s Best Side
Griffo’s Best Side

Griffo was absolutely delighted that Chad once again managed to get his best side in a pitch-side photo.

Late Game Subs & Game Management

With the game tight and time running down, Eddy made a couple of subs, with Matchett returning and Stephens coming back into the action.

At this stage, Griffo and Sammon decided that 3 points were more important than vibes, and so they were not used.
