Belles keep on smiling

What a lovely morning for football, the sun was shining, the sky was blue and it almost felt like summer had made a surprise comeback. The pitch, however, had other ideas. While the weather was beautiful, the ground was still a little wet underneath and the grass was certainly enjoying its growing season. At times the ball looked like it needed a sat-nav and a lawnmower to help it find its way through.

With Lexi away, the girls once again stepped up brilliantly and gave everything for the team.

Starting at the back Arabella and Erin formed a rock-solid defensive partnership. Both girls made some excellent interceptions throughout the game and were quick to clear the ball away from danger whenever Hinckley threatened. Their determination and awareness helped keep the opposition working hard for every opportunity.

In goal for the first quarter was Lola, who did a fantastic job. She pulled off some really impressive saves and showed great confidence with her long goal kicks, regularly launching the ball upfield and helping turn defence into attack in an instant.

In midfield, Millie was full of energy as always. Her speedy runs towards goal caused all sorts of problems for the opposition and she came agonisingly close to opening the scoring just minutes into the match. The pace and determination she showed was fantastic to watch.

Leading the line was Florence, who worked tirelessly up front. She was always finding herself in dangerous positions, ready to attack and constantly keeping the Hinckley defence on their toes. Her effort and movement created opportunities throughout the game.

Waiting patiently but eager to make an impact from the bench were Evelyn and Hazel. When called upon, both girls settled straight into their roles. Hazel did a brilliant job sweeping up loose balls in midfield and helping keep us moving forward, while Evelyn made some vital tackles and important clearances in our own half, showing great defensive awareness and commitment.

One of the biggest positives from today's game was how willing every single girl was to play in different positions. We challenged them to step outside their comfort zones and every one of them took it in their stride. Whether in defence, midfield, attack or goal, they accepted the challenge like true champions and gave 100% wherever they were asked to play.

The girls played their hearts out from the first whistle to the last and did everything we asked of them. Their teamwork, effort and attitude were outstanding throughout.

If goals were smiles, we'd be hundreds of goals ahead every single game. The positivity, encouragement and enjoyment these girls show every week is what makes this team so special.

Finally a special thank you to Coach Megs sister for providing the all-important post-match sweets. As every football expert knows, tactical discussions are always much easier when they're accompanied by a well-earned sweet treat.

Well done, girls. Keep working hard, keep supporting each other, and most importantly, keep those smiles coming 💙⚽💛🍬👏
