A real game of two halves for the Roses!
The first 25 minutes were some of the best football we’ve played on the ball, with excellent passing, movement and attacking intent. The goals came from good team play, with Katie finishing well from distance the right with a good ball out wide from Chloe G, then shortly after Chloe G worked hard to win the ball and unleash a powerful strike past the keeper.
Unfortunately, conceding just before half time gave Burbage a lift going into the second half and seemed to knock our confidence and belief.
After the break, we switched off for a few goals, our intensity dropped and suddenly the game had turned around to 3–2 to Burbage.
We pushed bodies forward in the final 10 minutes and were rewarded when Mimi produced a fantastic long-distance strike to make it 3–3 after some good work from Caris who was put in an unfamiliar forward role. We then conceded in the last minute which was absolutely gutting for the girls.
Despite the result, there were plenty of positives to take.
We tried a new formation today, which gave us a good outlet going forward and provided extra legs in midfield. Both full backs carried out their roles brilliantly, pushing high onto the wingers to deny them time and space, while our midfield played narrow to make the pitch compact.
It worked really well in the first half, but unfortunately we dropped off in the second.
Lots to learn from, but also plenty to build on.
Chloe G was Player of the Match today, she really took what we did in training into the game, being comfortable to receive the ball under pressure to hold it and then find a pass and move, it was a very mature forward performance.
