On a hot morning at the Anker Valley field of dreams, the U11 eagles faced off with old foes St John's Diamonds.

With a strong and experienced referee, this game was hotly contested but well controlled.

With a bare 9, the boys faced a tough ask and after a scrappy but even start, took the lead when Will H blasted home a penalty after a handball.

With confidence rising, the boys added a second after a driving Jack run fed Tom and he slotted into the corner.

When the half time whistle blew, the boys re-hydrate as eagerly as Coach Simon does in the Gate Hangs Well and got ready for the second half.

As the spaces opened, Bossie played the more composed football and an energetic display from Ewan helped drive the team forwards.

Brave defending from Arun, kept the opposition at bay and Josh went close with a powerful left footer. Noah was a calming presence at the back and Will Box swept up any danger nicely.

As the boys tired, St John's got one back with practically the last kick of the game but the blues left the field with deserved result for a fine display.

Man of the match went to GW for clearing up danger at the back then driving forward down the right.

Proud Coach Simon finally found his wallet and treated the lads to a celebratory hot dog from the legendary Anker Valley catering van.

Well done boys - still unbeaten in division 1 but some very tough tests to come.
