The U13 Dragons faced a challenging away fixture this weekend against a powerful Ashby Ivanhoe side. A tough match was expected, and the conditions added to the test — the playing surface was uneven, and the smaller pitch made it difficult for the Dragons to impose their usual style of play.
From the outset, Ashby played with intensity, showing a direct and physical approach that kept the Dragons pinned back early on. That pressure soon paid off as they broke the deadlock with a well-taken goal to go 1–0 up.
The Dragons worked hard to find a foothold in the game, but a judged handball saw Ashby awarded a penalty, which they converted to double their lead. Riding the wave of momentum, the home side added a third before the break, putting the Dragons under real pressure.
Despite the scoreline, the Dragons had standout moments of their own. Will was exceptional between the posts, pulling off a string of outstanding saves to prevent the deficit from growing even further, keeping his side in the contest heading into halftime.
After the break, the Dragons emerged with renewed energy and a fierce determination. They matched Ashby’s physicality and began to assert themselves more effectively, limiting clear chances for the hosts. With better passing and improved link-up play, the Dragons created more opportunities going forward, though they couldn’t quite find the finishing touch to pull a goal back.
Defensively, they stood firm under pressure, and Ewan put in a commanding performance at the back — composed, strong in the challenge, and alert throughout. His mature and tireless display earned him a well-deserved Player of the Match accolade, helping ensure Ashby were kept at bay in the second half.
While the result didn’t go their way, the Dragons can take real positives from their second-half showing, demonstrating character, resilience, and a refusal to roll over.
