Layla Shines On Her Debut as the Roses Get Amongst The Goals

Chad Brindley26 Sep 2022 - 19:58

The Roses were amongst the goals at the weekend with an impressive debut from Layla.

Today's opponents were Kirby Muxloe.

The game started off on a negative with Millie coming off after a forceful clash. Not the ideal start. Lucy stepped in for goalkeeper duties.

Roses quickly settled in the back and started positively with some great early play by debutant Layla. A couple of early chances showed signs a goal was coming and Layla did not disappoint with a fantastic finish to open the scoring.

Daisy followed suit with a couple of her own, one highlighted Daisy's strengths of breaking through and slotting the ball to the right of the keeper to find the side netting. Daisy was a threat all game and caused the Kirby defence lots of problems. Amelie was a great asset to the team up top in the first half, linking up the play sublimely at times and helped bring in the runners.

Lauren, Esme, Honey and Darcie were linking up well with Madie and Izzy to create chance after chance in the first half. Izzy finished off a good move which was saved well initially but Izzy followed up to slot home. Madie carried on her positive start to the season with another strong central midfield performance alongside Izzy. Izzy was as reliable as always, breaking up play and getting forward to support. Izzy provided great cover for the defensive pair of Lily and Layla. Lily was strong defensively but more pleasing was her calmness on the ball, winning the ball and looking to get us back into attack mode. Layla continued to drive forward from defence and again linked up well with her new team mates. Layla had a great desire to push on and win the ball high up, creating chances for herself and others. Daisy got her hatrick which was fully deserved, and if not for some good goalkeeping could of had more.

Darcie scored the opener in the second half with a typical DC finish. Darcie worked hard and played some very intelligent balls and made some good runs in the second half. A corner from Lauren to Darcie almost gave Darcie two goals but for an outstanding save. Esme was again positive driving in from the left and claimed a very good goal. Esme, Lauren and Honey continued to provide the wide threats and did not disappoint. It was great to have Lauren back to full fitness giving the Kirby defence plenty of problems and was constantly putting dangerous balls in the box time and time again. Honey was another threat with her skillful play and got a well deserved goal after a great driving run by Esme. Lucy offered defensive cover and good vision to get the ball wide from central areas.

A great team performance and always nice to build some confidence going into next week's touch encounter with Sporting Markfield.

Layla was awarded player of the match for a fantastic home debut performance. Well done Layla and the rest of the Roses.
