The Roses played their first game since 6th April and it was a warm one, with just eleven players we knew we’d have a tough game against Sileby, in a similar position with only eleven themselves it made for a competitive game and both teams were thankful for water breaks. The last game finished 4-3 to Bosworth after being down 3-1 at half time. Due to unavailability we had lost over 60 goals from the team for this game so we have to come up with a solution upfront.
Both sides competed well after the first whistle, the Roses were trying to find Kayleigh and Chloe B upfront with some good passes forward. A number of times Lily and Tilly won the ball and played a simple pass out wide or into the strikers which was the instruction pre-game.
Katie was having some joy on the right of midfield but her crosses were almost too good as we didn’t anticipate the ball across the box. Hallie was winning the loose balls in midfield and doing a good job infront of the defence.
Although Lyla had few saves to make, she was vocal, showing great leadership through organising and encouraging the team. She managed the danger well, the through balls that came through she was quick off her line to collect or clear.
In the second half, it was much of the same really, Kiri really got going and ran a few times with the ball and looked to be causing some problems from our left side and we put a few lovely balls across the box is which we could not get on the end of.
Esme went on one or her trademark dribbles, she turned the attacker brilliantly after winning possession in her own half and took the ball past some Sileby players before being dispossessed on the edge of the box. She did this a few times during the game and made good decisions with the ball.
Later in the game Chloe B started to get a bit of the ball and kept possession well with successful passes to her team mates.
Our best chance of the game fell after some good work late on when Kayleigh received the ball inside the box and she took on the defender but her powerful shot was well saved and Kiri hit the side netting on the follow-up.
Defensively we were solid and only gave away a few chances, an effort late on which hit the side netting after clipping the edge of the post was Sileby’s best chance. Lenna read the game well, she won the ball many times and took the ball from defence into midfield. Tilly supported well and even stepped into midfield at times to win the ball higher up the pitch, her distribution was good and she cleared danger a number of times. Caris had a good game at right back, a position she has adapted to well this season. She was up against a technical player but she recovered well when beaten and stole the ball a number of times.
The game ended 0-0 which was a fair result, the Roses awarded Lily Player of the Match, she listened to what she was asked to do and kept the play simple turning over possession and passing it out wide, she rarely lost the ball. The other player awarded was Esme, she was everywhere on the pitch, full of energy, chased every lost ball and showed some nice skill to turn under pressure.
Well done girls!
