Belles Back With A Bang

Belles Back With A Bang

Chad Brindley27 Oct 2024 - 20:09

The Belles were back firing after a week off, they found their form infront of goal.

The Belles returned to league action, fresh from a week off. Monica was still on holiday but other than that the Belles had a full squad available. Captain Ava remained at left back, as Evie pushed into midfield, with Eliza spearheading the attack.

The Belles were on the front foot right from the first whistle, a surging run from Darcy saw her cross evade Amie then a chance fell to Caitlin who just couldn't convert. The opposition goalkeeper was seeing plenty of shots which was an improvement the Belles needed to make.

Oliwia let fly which tested the goalkeeper, then she followed it up with another attempt that went just wide. The Belles did get the opening goal that their quick and tenacious play deserved. A brilliant pass from Ava saw Darcy scamper away from the full back as she drilled a low shot into the corner.

The positive start continued as the Belles play flowed throughout the team. A second goal came from Caitlin, who struck a fine shot past the goalkeeper. She then grabbed her second as her run into the box saw her find space and she finished well again.

A sharp turn from Freya saw her fire a shot over as the Belles were certainly dominating possession. Esme rushed out to clear the ball as defensively the Belles looked solid.

A short corner routine between Scarlet and Ava, saw the ball work back to Scarlet. Her cross found Evie, who swivelled and fired into the top corner. A brilliant moment for Evie, as she got her first goal for the club. Iris nearly finished another flowing Belles attack as she fired just over at the far post.

It was impressive football from the Belles, with everyone wanting the ball and being an option. A fifth goal came, a cross from Iris to Scarlet as she struck a lovely low shot into the corner. Then a brilliant Scarlet corner was nearly volleyed home by Chloe.

The opposition continued to try counter and got a goal back with a shot that squirmed beyond Esme's grasp. Lois then made a miraculous tackle to stop another chance. The Belles carried on, pushing forward at every opportunity as the halftime whistle went.

The team talk was an easy one. The Belles had produced their best football this season and their task was to continue their quick attacking play.

The second half began with the Belles yet again on the front foot. Oliwia, Evie and Caitlin were all excellent in possession as Iris and Amie continued to keep the width to be options for them.

Lols dealt with a difficult high pass tremendously well, with her ability to read situations along with her strength being such a positive influence on the Belles defence. Another super Ava pass got Amie away, her cross nearly falling to Freya. Then Caitlin completed her hat trick, a high press from the Belles saw Caitlin control the ball and slot home a beautiful shot into the corner.

Caitlin was fantastic all game and a hat trick was well deserved!

Another player who was looking dangerous was Darcy, she got her second goal by prodding home a loose ball which again came from the hard work from Iris. It was brilliant to see Iris in a confident mood but also being productive on the ball. A lung bursting run from Eliza saw her blistering pace get her through but she struck just wide. The Belles commitment and pace continued to shine. Some strong defending from Lola saw her place a pass to Darcy whose cross was well dealt with just as Chloe was ready to pounce. Darcy then completed her hat trick, as she turned inside the box and her left footed shot flew in the corner. Brilliant to see her get the goals her hard work deserved.

Some neat footwork from Evie saw her shoot at the goalkeeper, then Oliwia, who again oozed confidence in centre midfield saw her shot fly just past the post. A long range attempt saw the opposition get a second goal but it wasn't to effect the Belles. It was Freya's turn to get a goal and what a goal it was. Amie was sent away on the left, she twisted and turned and found Evie in support. Her pass into Freya saw her turn and emphatically fire a shot high into the goal. It was a lovely worked goal and another nice moment for Freya who recently celebrated her birthday!

There was still time for a couple of more opportunities, Lola sent a nice cross to Chloe who just couldn't get a shot away as the goalkeeper blocked the ball then another Amie cross was well dealt with by the opposition defence. The game finished with the Belles being extremely pleased with the performance. They have worked so hard in training as we have encouraged them to want the ball and pass and move. It's always nice to see this work pay off in today's game. We knew it would only be a matter of time when the Belles quick play would get their rewards, with everything just clicking into place and some of the goals we scored were fantastic!

It was a tough choice for player of the match which again demonstrates what a brilliant all round team performance it was. Evie and Iris were awarded it, Evie for not only getting her first goal for the club but also producing a combative midfield display which also had quality in possession.

Also Iris who was a constant threat out wide. She showed fantastic confidence and ability today, having a hand in two goals in an excellent display from her. Well done girls and well done Belles!
