Griffo was back following the previous 3-1 defeat to Grove Farm, where Bosworth were neither out battled nor outplayed but again on the wrong end of a result. This was a cup game for Bosworth against Mossdale who sported a Leicester City kit, had a Veo camera recording what was a competitive game. We were hoping it was a case of all the gear and no idea but actually credit to Mossdale they were a decent side and a good bunch of blokes.
We were told later, the Veo camera had lost focus on the ball midway through the second half and had zoomed in on Griffos stomach as he was topless running the line. We can only apologise to fans who are eagerly awaiting 80 minutes of footage only for it to be cut short for 20 minutes of belly dancing.
Bosworth were 1-0 down early which was hotly contested by Robinho as the ref told him to run and then not to run with his flag held high, if his flag was waived even more he’d have been landing Boeing 747s on Alans Way.
Bosworth were used to doing the hokey cokey though this season, something they practiced on the presentation night dance floor and they soon got themselves back into the game, some good play down the right and a ball across was finished on the line by the industrious Hutch. Shortly after Matt crashed the ball against the post, following a bit of chaos in the box.
Later in the half Bosworth won a penalty through Willsy who charged through on goal and the opposition goalkeeper clipped him leaving him somersaulting through the air, a definite foul and a heavy landing for Willsy who had to come off and was replaced by Stu. Daniel hit the resulting penalty with power but it was a superb save from the goalkeeper who pushed it wide of the post.
Mossdale were pushing hard for another goal, Ben raced back from midfield when the opposition looked to be through on goal and got a crucial block stopping the cross.
Second half kicked off and it was fairly eventful, Fantoms adam’s apple hurt one of their players hands as he was grabbed around the throat for not liking the tackle he had just received and the referee was buzzing round like an agitated wasp trying to keep some control.
Robinho finished to make it 2-1 not long after he had entered the field of play, he was in the right place at the right time as the ball found its way across the box. Mossdale pushed for an equaliser and did find themselves through on goal when Griff played 6 of them onside and chased back pumping his arms like Linford Christie in the 92 Olympics, although Griff running like he was carrying a rucksack minus the hefty lunchbox, he held his hands up and said “don’t worry lads I will chase back”.
The referee tried to make it interesting, a cross from the opposition wing which their striker caught with both hands meant it would only go one way, a penalty to Mossdale. Bosworth were incensed and animated, Robinho had his hands on his head, he couldn’t believe it, Jono protested and Lee was in shock however enter Super Sid who got down low to make the save from the spot.
Bosworth defended well and Fantom was winning everything in the air but they were made to work hard to hold onto the lead by Mossdale who pumped the ball forward at every opportunity only to find impeccable handling from Sid who held the ball as tight as he holds his Kebab and Efes. Bosworth held out as the game ended 2-1.
The drama had not yet finished, the referee was not happy with how linesman Lee had put his flag down and an issue pursued with the referee asking Lee’s name and later we heard he had been sent off even though the referee had not shown a card we were unsure. Lee was shocked, he had never been asked out on a date before by a referee, so he panicked.
In the end, we had to decide between the menace’s Fantom or Phantom for Player of the Match, we went for our pigeon tamer Fantom and not the Phantom Steve Smith, last seen sporting a tan calling himself Lee Parker storming away from Alans Way saying “I’ve never been spoken to like that before, I’m insulted”. Despite the controversy, Bosworth took the victory and will face GK Scaffolding in the next round.
